The Churchill Symposiums

Unmatched in his wisdom, wit and leadership, Winston Churchill is one of the most important leaders of the twentieth century. Beginning in World War I, Churchill quickly established a long and impressive résumé in governmental affairs, serving as a trade board president, first lord of the admiralty, secretary of war and secretary of state for air, to name a few. He has come to be known as one of the greatest, most quotable speakers in history, all after overcoming a childhood speech impediment. Churchill's statement, "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat," is one of the most noteworthy in modern times.

The great success of Churchill achieves poignancy through his great failures. Whether taking responsibility for the notorious invasion attempt at Gallipoli, or being isolated from the Conservative Party during the inter-War years, few great leaders have ever seemed as vulnerable, flawed and human and yet managed to overcome, lead and thrive in the way Churchill famously did. His contributions were not confined to his wartime leadership. During his political isolation, he focused on his personal writings for which he later earned a Nobel Prize for Literature.

One of the most important and influential political figures in all of history, Churchill warrants great attention and has begun to experience resurgence today. His writings, speeches, leadership and life offer fortitude, strength and intellect that have innumerable applications to modern society. Renewed studies on Churchill have begun to inspire movie scripts and television series. In the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Churchill's granddaughter Celia Sandys received letters from many people who found inspiration in his speeches, writings and actions including former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Arnett & Associates is proud to represent some of the foremost Churchill scholars in the world. The themes of the programs can be customized to be broad or narrow, but all will have a strong foundation in the speeches, writings and actions of Sir Winston Churchill. We comprised a few suggestions with the help of Allen Packwood, Director of the Churchill Archives Centre in London, England and Arnett & Associates speaker.
