Many Arnett & Associates speakers find their way into the news, and this page is intended to keep interested parties up to speed with our latest happenings. Often our speakers and their work are the news, especially with the Jamestown 400th anniversary taking place this spring. But because we have such a diverse mix of speakers who are experts in their fields, we often find them sharing their wisdom with reporters and writers, as is the case with Sandy Dumont being quoted in an MSNBC feature on leadership and professional image. Virginia’s eight state-recognized Indian tribes will showcase the various cultures of American Indian nations during a two-day American Indian Intertribal Festival. Focusing on the contributions and cultures of Virginia Indians, the festival will highlight the similarities and differences among tribes throughout the state and visiting tribes from throughout the nation through dance, food, stories, arts and crafts, cultural demonstrations and historical information. This spectacular event was chaired and organized by Chief Kenneth Adams of the Upper Mattaponi Indian Tribe in Virginia.

The Virginia program takes center stage to coincide with this year's 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown. It includes a delegation from Kent County, England, which sent over the first settlers in 1607, as well as eight American Indian tribes and West Africans representing the state's black history. Edward Wright Haile is a talking head for National Geographic in The New World: Nightmare at Jamestown. The DVD includes two film clips of Haile and in the special features section there is a short documentary about Smith's voyages. The program accurately examines forensic and archeological evidence to the story of American's first permanent English settlement at Jamestown.

The Elderhostel will host Diplomacy In The Modern World Conference from March 25, 2008 through April 4, 2008 where they will delve into the enigmatic world of diplomacy. Richmond Mayor, Doug Wilder, John Rolfe (portrayed by our own Dick Cheatham), stand poised as the Kalamar Nyckel makes its debut in Richmond, Virginia.  The Nyckel is accompanying the Godspeed landing in Richmond for the "Rock the Boat" event the week of May 21-26. Arnett & Associates' Living History Interpreters are at the event making "history come alive" for visitors.

At Tree Hill on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, there was a Historical Marker Dedication ceremony for the Powhatan Village Site.
