 When Arnett & Associates brought Bill Rancic to Richmond to be the keynote speaker for the Greater Richmond Chamber's BizLinc event, little did we know that we would be part of his reality show, Giuliana & Bill.
We were, without being aware, hindering the conception of their bambino. After trying to have a baby, they, like many young couples trying to have a baby, were at the mercy of an ovulation calendar, which fell on the Richmond date for the BizLinc event. Although the show was clearly focused on Giuliana and Bill Rancic (hence the name), all of Richmond was abuzz at the prospect of being on the reality show.
From Arnett & Associates, Alex Arnett was pulled aside by Bill who told him he needed to get home to his wife. In the exhibit behind Bill was our own Sir Walter Raleigh, aka Dennis Strawderman, along with Jerome Bridges portraying a Black Civil War soldier. All in all, a great time was had by all and watching Giuliana & Bill has new meaning for Richmonders.... who may, or may not, be responsible for a pregnancy. May-01-2009 - Mike London Named BCA Male Coach Of The Year |
 The Black Coaches & Administrators (BCA) has named Richmond Football Head Coach Mike London as its 2009 Male Coach of the Year. In his first year at his alma mater, London guided the Spiders to the 2008 NCAA Division I National Football Championship.
"It is indeed an honor and privilege to be recognized with this award," said London. "The BCA has long championed the cause of opportunity. I'd like to thank our President Ed Ayers and our Athletic Director Jim Miller for giving me that opportunity. This award is made possible by the outstanding efforts of my assistant coaches and staff. Finally, a special thank you to our players that believed that anything is possible and that academic and athletic achievement can go hand in hand."

Mar-19-2009 - Kevin Powell on Oprah |
 Kevin Powell appeared on Oprah Thursday,
having the honor to speak with Winfrey on one of his most
hard-fought causes, ending violence against women and girls. On the
heels of one of the most-watched episodes this year, dedicated to Chris
Brown, Rihanna, and young adults in abusive relationships, Powell led
the follow-up episode to give his insight into this gravely serious
issue hurting people worldwide.
Powell agreed that abusing is an
addiction. "I think it's a form of mental illness to commit any form of
violence against a female or a male," he said. "I think we've got to
strive for a society that's rooted in nonviolence."
The first step? "Having the courage to own your mistakes," he said. "That's something I had to do."
That
doesn't only apply to men who've abused in the past - Powell said every
man must step up if they see the men around them engaging in abusive
behavior. "Your silence is agreement and participation," Powell said.
